Course of Study

Career Preparation (Course of Study Requirement) English - 4 credits English I, English II English III, English IV Mathematics - 3 credits Three units of mathematics, one of which must be Algebra I Science - 3 credits Biology A physical science Earth/environmental science Social Studies - 3 credits Economic, Legal and Political Systems (ELP), U.S. History and World studies Health & PE - 1 credit Career/Technical Education 4 credits Must be a pathway that leads to a specific career field and must include a second-level (advanced) course, or four credits in one of the four disciplines in arts education: theatre, music, visual arts, or dance Foreign Language (Not required) ** Electives 4 credits Career/Technical (Select courses appropriate for career pathway to include a second level (advanced) course) OR 4 credits in Arts Education (Select courses appropriate for career pathway to include an advanced course) Students graduating from Pender County Schools must successfully complete 28 course units. Proficiency on all required EOC tests, computer skills tests, competency tests, and the Exit Exam ***.

College Technical Preparation ** (Course of Study Requirement) English - 4 credits English I, English II English III, English IV Mathematics 3 credits ** Algebra I, Geometry, Algebra II or Algebra I, Technical Mathematics I and II or Integrated mathematics I, II, and III Science - 3 credits Biology A physical science Earth/environmental science Social Studies - 3 credits Economic, Legal and Political Systems, U.S. History and World studies Health & PE - 1 credit Career/Technical Education 4 credits Must be a pathway that leads to a specific career field and must include a second-level (advanced) course Foreign Language (Not required)** Electives One credit in arts education (dance, music, theatre arts, visual arts) recommended. College/ University Preparation (UNC 4-yr College Course of Study Requirement) English - 4 credits English I, English II English III, English IV Mathematics - 3 credits Algebra I, Algebra II, Geometry or a higher level course for which Algebra II is a prerequisite; or Integrated Mathematics I, II, or III. Science - 3 credits Biology A physical science Earth/environmental science Social Studies - 3 credits Economic, Legal and Political Systems, U.S. History and World studies Health & PE - 1 credit Foreign Language – 2 credits Two credits in the same foreign language Electives One credit in arts education (dance, music, theatre arts, visual arts) is recommended. Occu-Prep Preparation * (Course of Study Requirement) English - 4 credits Occupational English I, II, III, IV Mathematics - 3 credits Occupational Mathematics I, II, III Science - 2 credits Life Skills Science I, II Social Studies - 2 credits Government/U.S. History and Self-Advocacy/Problem Solving Health & PE - 1 credit Occupational Preparation Education - 6 credits Occupational Preparation I, II, III, IV; (Completion of 300 hours of school-based training, 240 hours of community-based training and 360 hours of paid employment) Foreign Language (Not required)** Electives One credit in arts education (dance, music, theatre arts, visual arts) is recommended Vocational Education 4 Vocational Education electives credits Computer Proficiency As specified in the student’s Individual Education Plan (IEP) Completion of student’s Individual Education Plan (IEP) objectives/Career Portfolio. No Exit Exam

* This course of study is only available to certain students with disabilities who have an IEP beginning with the 9^th graders
in the 2000-01 school year.

** Students pursuing a College Tech Prep course of study may also meet the requirement of a College/Univ. course of study
by completing 2 credits in the same language and one additional unit in mathematics.

*** The Exit Exam requirement is effective with the graduating class 2004.
