Northampton County

Northampton County is a rural community located in the northeastern part of North Carolina. The county's 539 square miles sit astride the Coastal Plain and Piedmont Regions. The population is approximately 23,000. Within 15-90 miles are an abundance of cultural, historical, recreational, and other educational institutions. Among these are the Lakeland Arts Center, Historic Halifax, Lake Gaston, Tidewater VA, the Research Triangle Park, and the cities of Roanoke Rapids, Murfreesboro, Rocky Mount, Raleigh, Durham, Petersburg, and Richmond.

Institutions of higher learning within a 100-mile radius include Elizabeth City State University, East Carolina University, North Carolina Wesleyan College, North Carolina State University, North Carolina Central University, Shaw University, St. Augustine's University, Duke University, University of Richmond, Virginia Commonwealth University, Virginia State University, Norfolk State University, Old Dominion University, Hampton University, Chowan College, Halifax Community College and Roanoke Chowan Community College.
