Parent Night a Success

The NCHS-West parent night that was held on Thurdsay, December 6, 2001 was a big success.  The night started off with representatives from each department displaying work from various classes.  The media center set up a computer so that parents could see the Thinking Maps software in action, while Mr. Lopez with the science department showed off his martian "antenas."  These specially designed "antenas" demonstrated the law of inertia, which states an object at rest tends to stay at rest.

As the evening progressed, the fun was moved into the cafeteria.  Mrs. Earley, SIT Chairperson, introduced several guest speakers including Mrs. Belinda Joyner, PTA president and Ms. Nyimah Boles, SGA president.  After the speeches were done, the food was served, and guests were entertained with several musical selections from the Northampton Choir, a performance by the drama department, and a set of drills from the JROTC Drill Team.  As the night came to an end, Mr. Roberts drew names for the door prizes and gave away several nice gifts to the parents.

All in all the, the first annual parent night turned out to be a huge success for West, and the SIT is already busy planning the next parent night, slated for sometime during second semester.
