Dear Parents and Interested Citizens:
Welcome to Pender County Schools’ 2003-2004 Report Card!
North Carolina’s school accountability program, the ABCs of Public Education, provides a lot of important information about our schools. These numbers only tell part of the story. There are other important indicators of school quality such as class size, teacher quality, and financial support. This wealth of information can be found in one place, on the North Carolina School Report Card.
As you review our report card and compare it to previous years, you will see student achievement is steadily improving. During the 2003-2004 school year four schools achieved the designation of Honor Schools of Excellence, twelve schools met the Adequate Yearly Progress standard as measured by No Child Left Behind Legislation, and ten schools met expected growth goals. We are particularly proud that gaps in performance of majority and minority students are steadily closing.
Our students continue make gains year after year. This success is attributed to our staff of caring and committed professionals who diligently work to facilitate student learning to ensure that every student achieves at the highest level. Additionally, numerous volunteers, businesses, and civic partners support the classroom teacher by providing educational enrichment opportunities.
We want our parents and the community to be well informed about our progress and about programs within the school system. Feel free to contact my office or the school principal to discuss this report card or any other interests you have in our school system. Thank you for supporting our efforts to provide a quality education.
Dr. Theodore S. Kaniuka, Superintendent
